Over the summer of 2025, I was invited back to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King's Lynn to create some more murals for their new Macmillan Cancer Care and Treatment Ward. Working alongside the staff throughout the design process and the actual creation, the three murals were created to cater for the environment the staff and patients wanted to created in this new centre.
The murals consisted of a bluebell woodland, cherry blossoms and crocuses. During their creation, each member of the team was invited to paint a part of the mural, allowing them to be a part of the process. The refurbishment was funded partially by a family whose father had passed away from cancer, he would run huge fundraisers within the Macmillan community and on his own, at the opening there was a dedication to him. The crocus mural was inspired by a story from his family,
"crocus came up in Mum and Dad's garden on the day mum passed away and appeared every year since on the exact date she passed".
With this in mind, the vibrant yet calming crocus mural was created for the main entrance and waiting room of the centre.
