Howard Junior School, King’s Lynn (2001 – 2022)

I have worked with this school on a regular basis for many years, including a 5 year stint as a governor. Projects here have included an awarding-winning sensory garden which featured in a Department for Education publication ‘Schools for the future: designing school grounds’ and multiple murals, art projects and Forest School sessions.

The school hall has the largest mural that I have worked on at 140 square metres, a Harry Potter inspired design containing many details from the books hidden throughout. The non-fiction library commemorates the World Wars with homage paid to women and men from around the world who served on one wall and another wall depicting children’s fiction set in wartime. In the playground there is another huge mural of a giant bookshelf with the characters coming to life from the books.

The reading theme continues in the classrooms; there are rooms dedicated to Narnia, Roald Dahl, Bewilderwood, Walliams and classic and modern children’s fiction.
